“Alubloba” _ Juvenile Inmate’s Dream Comes True

Since 2006 professionals of GCRT have been conducting psychosocial rehabilitation services in juvenile detention facilities of Penitentiary Department of Ministry of Justice. In Spring 2007 GCRT professionals offered juvenile detainees to participate in literary contest Alubloba, organized by New Art and Elit Electronics. Two juvenile inmates Aleksandre Magalashvili and Fuat Farukhov expressed interest towards this event and later presented short novels for the competition. Their works were delivered to New Art by our professionals. On 16 of December awarding ceremony was held in the Mozardi theatre. By that time Fuat Farukhov was transferred to another institution as he reached adult age. We asked Penitentiary Department to give permission to Aleksandre Magalashvili to attend the ceremony. Employees of Penitentiary Department were very helpful and Aleksandre was able to attend the ceremony accompanied by convey and employees of Penitentiary Department.

When the presenter announced Aleksandre as the winner of nomination “Best Debut” and mentioned the fact that he was a juvenile inmate, the audience reacted positively and drew lengthy applause, which was a nice surprise for Aleksandre. Elit Electronics awarded Aleksandre with a DVD player and t-shirts, New Art granted books, and GCRT presented a pullover to Aleksandre. A certificate and books were sent to Fuat Farukhov as well.

Aleksandre’s success was a strong incentive for other inmates; many of them declared that they would like to participate in the next contest of Alubloba. GCRT and New Art decided to continue future cooperation due to such successful and inspiring beginning.
